7 tips to take care of your kidneys

1.Don’t smoke

Smoking reduces blood flow and prevents enough blood from reaching the kidneys. If these organs do not receive enough blood, they cannot work properly. Smoking also increases the chance of developing kidney cancer.

2.Exercise

Staying active and fit is important for your overall health. Exercise can help lower blood pressure, a major risk factor for kidney problems.

3.Maintain a healthy weight

Kidneys have to work harder in the bodies of overweight people to compensate for extra body mass. More effort is needed to filter waste and handle other bodily functions when there is more body mass to regulate.

4.Avoid salt

Reducing salt intake can significantly reduce many risk factors for kidney problems. If possible, avoid processed and prepared foods, as they are high in salt and sodium.

5.Control blood sugar

High blood sugar can damage the blood vessels in the kidneys, which also prevents them from functioning. To protect these organs, it is important to keep blood sugar levels within a healthy range.

6.Drink water

Staying hydrated helps your kidneys function normally by flushing salt and toxins from your body. It is not recommended to drink excessive amounts of water at one time, it is best to increase your intake slightly throughout the day.

7.Check your kidneys

There are two types of tests that let you know if your kidneys are healthy. A urinalysis will determine what types of protein and albumin are present in your urine. Different types may indicate kidney disease. A blood test will determine the amount of wastes in your blood and will also determine if your kidneys are working properly.
